the online live music gig guide for birmingham & the midlands

Earth Calling Alice

Earth Calling Alice is the result of years of sporadic and occasionally drunken songwriting. The idea is simple - if it's a good song, they'll play it. Their tunes come from real life experiences. From people, places, ourselves, each other. The songs they choose to cover by others resonate with them.

Formed in 2006 by long-time friends Alex Theay and Jim Bryant, and inspired by a love of acoustic music, Earth Calling Alice have wasted no time. A demo CD was recorded in August and is already receiving very positive feedback. In October they played their first show as part of the West Midlands Unsigned Bands 2006 showcase. They are booked through World Unlimited Promotions to play the Midlands Art Centre in February. They are also in talks to appear at festivals and on the radio in 2007 and are a regular fixture in the Overplay unsigned band charts. They have also recently added Andy Marshall, an experienced and sensitive guitar player to their line up.

Folk music and acoustic music is about reality and expression, and Earth Calling Alice is no different. They tell stories through our songs that mean something. Influenced by artists and bands as varied as Nick Drake, Rush, Crowded House, Marillion, Iron Maiden, Queen, Fairport Convention, Tom McRae and Peter Gabriel, they are prepared to try anything once! They’re not in it for the money, the fame or anything else like that – it’s purely for the music that means so much to them.
